This is a Subscript Analytics feature. You can use it to set and track goals for metrics such as Recurring Revenue, Retention, and more!

Adding a goal

You can create a goal to monitor your progress for specific metrics in any dashboard. Click Dashboards in the left menu, and then click the Start tracking a new goal banner:

If you already have goals for the period you’re looking at, you’ll see this option bit differently:

After that, follow the steps below:

  1. Select a metric
  2. Add your target month (when you want to achieve that number)
  3. Add your target value
  4. Save — it’s as easy as that!
  5. (Optional) You can also fine tune the intermediary goals for the months in the period looked at, but by default Subscript will already calculate them for you

Understanding the numbers you’re seeing

<aside> ℹ️

You’ll only see the goals relevant for the period you’re looking at. If you set goals for last year and have filtered by the current year only in the Period filter in the top, you won’t see past goals.

You can always go back in the Period filter to see previous goals and how you tracked against them! 📝

Goals take into consideration your progress, but also where you’re at right now.

The % of the goal (in the middle of the circle) is calculated as follows:

Percentage = (current period amount - first period amount) / (goal amount - first period amount)

In practice:

Percentage = (3M - 1M) / (5M - 2M) = 33%

🤔 Why this math? The goal % is calculated from the starting point, and is supposed to tell you how far you are away from the target. In other words: how much progress have we made towards our goal since we started tracking it?
